Rapid demographic, environmental, and economic changes, increasing (goods) traffic as well as technological, spatial and regulatory developments present enormous challenges in the urban region of Lower Austria – Vienna, especially in logistics.
Thus, the provinces of Lower Austria and Vienna together with the economic chambers of the two provinces initiated a stakeholder process, to develop an action plan for sustainable logistics that aims at reducing traffic and carbon emissions, solving conflicts of use, supporting accompanying logistics concepts and pilot projects.
Our solution
denkstatt – together with our partner ECONSULT – accompanied a three-year stakeholder process, including:
- Stakeholder activation (interviews and survey)
- Development of fields of action
- Alignment with future scenarios
- Development, prioritization, and planning of measures
The process engaged around 250 people over several workshops and feedback sessions and resulted in an action plan with 35 measures and 133 actions that were adopted by the provinces and economic chambers.
We also accompany the implementation of the action plan with regular monitoring, stakeholder engagement, and communication measures.
Client benefit
The project brought together public administration and economic chambers as well as a diverse set of stakeholders on the topic of sustainable logistics. It resulted in a comprehensive, ambitious, and concrete action plan that is continuously being implemented.
It also established a process and platform for collaboration on sustainable logistics in the Vienna metropolitan region. Moreover, several accompanying pilot projects that address the project’s objectives were initiated or supported.
Sustainable Logistics 2030+ was awarded the renowned VCÖ Mobility Award 2020 in the “Transport, logistics, freight” category.
